313: A MEIJI PERIOD JAPANESE SATSUMA EARTHENWARE BOWL

A Japanese Satsuma ware chrysanthemum petal-shaped bowl, Meiji period, late 19th century. Decoration features various popular legendary and religious figures, including Rakan surrounded by golden nimbuses, a dragon, the King of the Underworld, Daikoku, a god of good fortune, Shimazu clan crests, and temple scenery. Mark on base, "Dai Nippon Satsuma yaki moto Choshuzan tsukuru" (Satsuma ware of Great Japan, made by the original Choshuan workshop [note: of Kyoto]). Overglaze enamels and gold pigment on earthenware. Measures 12 x 12 inches with stand.
Very good condition noting wear to the high points of each 'petal' of the bowl's top rim. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or scratches, no enamel loss, no other wear with the exception of one interior high rib showing moderate wear. No other interior wear to any degree, the interior is free from surface wear or issues.
